Tom Giovatto (born 1975) is an American college soccer coach and former player. He played forward at Xavier High School in New York, then earned a soccer scholarship to Iona College, graduating in 1997 with a degree in Mass Communication. He also played for the Brooklyn Knights in 1997.
After his playing days, Giovatto began coaching, serving as an assistant at Xavier High School (2001–2004), Saint Peter’s (2001–2004), Stony Brook (2004–2006), and St. Francis Brooklyn (2006–2007). On August 22, 2007, he was named the head coach of the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers men’s soccer team, a role he held until 2022.
During his time at St. Francis Brooklyn, Giovatto led the team to seven winning seasons, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and three NEC Tournament championships, with NEC regular-season titles in 2016 and 2017. His squads produced two All-Americans, Kevin Correa and Vincent Bezecourt. Notable seasons include 2013, when the team went 12–6–1, won the NEC Tournament, and earned an NCAA berth—the program’s first since 1982. That year he received BigAppleSoccer Coach of the Year and NSCAA North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honors. In 2014 the Terriers went 11–6–4 and again won the NEC Tournament and earned a NCAA appearance. The 2015 season began with an impressive nine-game unbeaten start and a No. 22 national ranking in the NSCAA poll. Giovatto was named NEC Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2017, as his teams won the NEC Regular Season titles, NEC Tournament titles, and made NCAA appearances. He also earned national recognition from BigAppleSoccer and the NSCAA.
After leaving St. Francis Brooklyn, he continued coaching, including a stint with LIU’s women’s team in 2024 and a role at Manhattan beginning in 2025. Giovatto is remembered for building a competitive program and developing standout players during his tenure with the Terriers.
