The Chariot (tarot card)
The Chariot (VII) is the seventh Major Arcana card in most tarot decks. It shows a rider in a chariot pulled by two animals, usually sphinxes or horses, often one black and one white. The driver may wear a crown or helmet and is sometimes shown with wings; a sword or wand may be in hand. In the Thoth deck, the figure controls four animals instead. A gavel on the coat of arms symbolizes self‑control, and a canopy of stars above the head points to celestial influence. In readings, upright the Chariot can mean victory, protection, and moving forward, but it may also suggest war, pride, or trouble. Reversed, it can indicate quarrels, disputes, lawsuits, or defeat. Astrology links the Chariot to Cancer and the Moon.
