Struggle of the Heroes
Struggle of the Heroes, also known as Clash of the Heroes, is a 1962 Egyptian film directed by Tewfik Saleh. The story follows Shukri, a newly graduated doctor who goes to a rural village to help people by treating diseases and improving their lives. He soon learns that poverty and backwardness are not just fate; they are driven by the feudal Adel Bey, who forces the villagers to follow his will.
Shukri begins to challenge Adel Bey and helps the residents claim their rights, which earns him their friendship but puts him in conflict with the feudal lord and with the local midwife Umm Hilal, who sees him as a rival. Meanwhile, English soldiers dump leftover food for the peasants, which leads to a cholera outbreak that Shukri later identifies.
When Shukri urges the villagers to stop eating the spoiled food, many resist, turning him into a public enemy. The Interior Ministry sends protection to him, and he works with authorities to control the epidemic and heal the people. He proves his approach works and is appointed to lead the fight against cholera, moving to another village with his wife to continue his mission.
The film is regarded as an important work in Egyptian cinema.
