Stephen Chan OBE (born 1949) is a New Zealand-born author and Professor of World Politics at SOAS, University of London. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2010 for services to Africa and higher education. He has written several books on international relations and many articles, reviews, and feature pieces for journals and the media.

Born in New Zealand to Chinese refugee parents, Chan earned his BA and MA from the University of Auckland, then an MA from King's College London and a PhD from the University of Kent. He began his academic career at the University of Zambia in 1983, later taught at the University of Wellington, and held posts at the University of Kent and Nottingham Trent University before joining SOAS in 2002. In 2010 he received the International Studies Association’s Eminent Scholar in Global Development award.
