Sh shaft was an English electronic music group famous for using vocal samples from a children’s cartoon. They had a top 10 UK hit in December 1991 with Roobarb & Custard, built from recreated Roobarb vocals and various sound effects. The track was mainly created by Mark Pritchard and Adrian Hughes and reached No. 7 in the UK charts in January 1992. Their follow-up, Monkey, peaked at No. 61 in July 1992. Using samples from children’s TV shows wasn't unique in this scene; Mark Summers had used The Magic Roundabout in Summers Magic (January 1991), and The Prodigy released Charly later that year. In 1992 other groups followed the same path: Urban Hype with A Trip to Trumpton reached No. 7, and Smart E's hit No. 2 with Sesame's Treet. This style of music was part of what was called toytown techno.
