Sergei Gennadyevich Karasev (born 12 June 1979 in Moscow) is a Russian international football referee. He became a FIFA-listed referee in 2010 and has officiated at World Cup qualifiers, including the 2014 qualifier between Scotland and Macedonia. At UEFA Euro 2020, he refereed three matches, starting with Italy vs. Switzerland. He was the first Russian referee to be appointed to a World Cup or Euro playoff match since 2008. He has often been regarded as Russia’s best referee. On 18 August 2024, a team of Russian referees led by Karasev officiated a Belarusian Premier League match between FC BATE Borisov and FC Gomel. He is married with two children. His hobby is attending metal concerts, and he has named Slayer as his favourite metal band.
