Nikole Lewis is an astrophysicist and assistant professor of Astronomy at Cornell University. She studies exoplanets and their atmospheres, using observations and theory to understand how planets outside our solar system form and behave. In 2018, she co-led a Hubble Space Telescope survey of the TRAPPIST-1 system, the first study of atmospheres for Earth-sized exoplanets. She also helped announce the TRAPPIST-1 discovery in 2017 and explained why detecting atmospheres is important for searching for signs of life. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2012, an M.A. from Boston University in 2004, and a B.S. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2002, and is affiliated with Cornell University and the Carl Sagan Institute.
