Nelson Seymour Lougheed
Nelson Seymour Lougheed (April 16, 1882 – June 6, 1944) was a British Columbia businessman and Conservative politician. Born in Thornbury, Ontario, he moved to British Columbia with his family in 1889. In 1905 he settled in Port Haney and, with partner G. G. Abernethy, ran a sawmill. He was also involved in mining and logging and served as the mayor of Maple Ridge. Lougheed represented the Dewdney riding in the Legislative Assembly from July 18, 1928, to November 2, 1933, retiring at the 1933 election. He was married to Irene Ann Brown. In government, he was Minister of Public Works from 1928 to 1930 and Minister of Lands from 1930 to 1933. He died in Vancouver at age 62. The Lougheed Highway is named after him.
