NGC 3137
NGC 3137 is a spiral galaxy in the southern constellation Antlia. It sits about 50 million light-years from Earth and spans roughly 140,000 light-years, making it similar in size to the Milky Way. Its nucleus is bright, and the spiral arms are loosely wound with many bright knots. Classified as SA(s)d, the galaxy has no central bar or inner ring. A star lies near the center, and the galaxy is tilted about 70 degrees from our line of sight. Star formation is ongoing at about half a solar mass per year. The center hosts a supermassive black hole of tens of millions of solar masses. NGC 3137 is part of the NGC 3175 Group, which also includes the large spiral NGC 3175 and other members such as NGC 3113 and NGC 3125.
