Núria Añó
Núria Añó is a Catalan writer, novelist, biographer and essayist born on 10 February 1973 in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. She writes in Catalan and Spanish and is known for addressing social issues in her work. Añó began writing young and published her first story in 1990.
Her novels and short stories include Els nens de l'Elisa (2006), which was a finalist for the Ramon Llull Prize, The Dead Writer (2008), Lowering Clouds (2009), La mirada del fill (2012), and The Salon of Exiled Artists in California (2020). Her work often features strong female characters and deep psychological insight, sometimes using antiheroes who resist simple explanations.
Besides writing, Añó gives talks at universities and libraries about literary creation and about authors such as Elfriede Jelinek and Patricia Highsmith, and she serves on international literary juries. Her writing has been translated into many languages. She has received numerous international fellowships and prizes since 1996, including the City of Almenara Joan Fuster Prize for Fiction. She has held residencies and programs in Finland, China, Poland, Greece, Sweden, Latvia, and other places, such as the Kraków UNESCO City of Literature residency, the Shanghai Writing Program, and the Shanghai Get-Together in 2018.
