Mohsen Gharaei (born January 27, 1984, in Behshahr) is an Iranian film director and screenwriter. He studied mining engineering at the University of Tehran and began making films in 2007. His 2018 film Qasr-e Shirin won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Screenplay at the 37th Fajr Film Festival. In 2020 he directed and co-wrote Without Everything, an adaptation of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's play The Visit. The film won multiple Crystal Simorgh awards at the 39th Fajr Film Festival, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Costume Design, and a Jury Special Award, and it was also nominated for Best Director and Best Film. It was released in Iranian cinemas on December 15, 2021 and earned about 9.4 billion toman.
