Mike Rappl
Mike Rappl is an American former basketball and softball coach. He was the head softball coach at Canisius College from 1980 to 2014, turning the program from a club team into a perennial NCAA Tournament contender. After a 5-9 debut season, his teams produced 22 straight winning seasons from 1981 to 2002 and finished with an 831-526-2 career softball record. Canisius won 13 MAAC regular-season titles and 12 MAAC tournaments under his leadership, and the team made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, the most by any MAAC coach. Rappl was named MAAC Softball Coach of the Year seven times (1992–1995, 1998, 2001, 2008) and also coached Canisius women’s basketball from 1986–1993, posting a 93–94 record and earning MAAC Coach of the Year in 1992. He was inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Rappl holds MAAC records for most conference wins by a coach (253) and for most wins by a Canisius coach (831). At retirement, he was the winningest coach in MAAC history across any sport, a record later surpassed by Tony Rossi of Siena.
