Mehndi (1998 film)
Mehndi is a 1998 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Hamid Ali Khan. It stars Rani Mukerji as Pooja and Faraaz Khan as Niranjan. Pooja, Niranjan’s new wife from a middle-class family, faces abuse from his relatives. Niranjan tries to launch a factory and hides his bad habits, including visits to brothels. After Niranjan is charged with murder, a mysterious man offers to save him if Pooja spends a night with him; she agrees but the man does nothing. Niranjan is released and turns against Pooja; she is expelled by the family and branded “characterless.” In court, Pooja’s father is killed by her sister-in-law’s husband. Grieving, Pooja vows revenge, defeats the in-laws in court, and kills the womanizing husband when he tries to shoot her. Niranjan and his family attempt to burn Pooja, but she survives and shoots Niranjan; they ask for forgiveness on their deathbeds. Music by Babul Bose with lyrics by Rani Malik.
