Kalimba de Luna – 16 Happy Songs
Kalimba de Luna – 16 Happy Songs is a Boney M. compilation released in November 1984. It gathers a mix of short edits, full versions, and earlier non‑album tracks, plus a few new or reworked elements.
Key singles
- Kalimba de Luna — Germany No. 17 (22 weeks on the chart). The song is a cover of Tony Esposito’s hit and helped the band crack the German Top 20 again after three years.
- Happy Song — Germany No. 7 (16 weeks). Originally by Baby’s Gang; this track also helped boost the album’s profile.
What the album includes
- 12" versions of the two singles.
- 3-minute edits from Boonoonoonoos and Ten Thousand Lightyears.
- Non‑album singles: Children Of Paradise / Gadda Da Vida (1980), Felicidad (Margherita) (1981), Going Back West (1982), Jambo - Hakuna Matata (No Problems) (1983).
- A new remix of Calendar Song from Oceans Of Fantasy.
Release and later use
- Like the earlier 1980 compilation The Magic Of Boney M. - 20 Golden Hits, many of these edits reappeared on later compilations, including the 2007 Hit Collection.
Credits and artwork
- The Happy Song is listed as “Boney M. with Bobby Farrell & the School-Rebels,” and the album as “Boney M. with Bobby Farrell.”
- The French Carrere edition used an alternative cover that matched their Kalimba de Luna release branding.
Remaster and track changes
- On August 31, 2007, the album was remastered for Sony BMG reissues. The new version revised the track list, removing duplicates from Ten Thousand Lightyears and Boonoonoonoos, and adding back the original full-length single versions of Going Back West, Children Of Paradise, and Gadda Da Vida on CD for the first time. It also included 1993 songs Liz Mitchell recorded for More Gold.
- Plans to include the single edit of Ribbons Of Blue and Liz Mitchell’s Mocking Bird / Tropical Fever were dropped, and the collection was shortened to 14 songs, with the subtitle “16 Happy Songs” dropped.
Format notes
- The album appeared in several formats (UK and Germany 7" and 12" versions), with various catalog numbers. It sits in Boney M.’s releases between Ten Thousand Lightyears (1984) and Fantastic Boney M. (1984).
