Joseph Featherston
Joseph Featherston (also spelled Featherstone) (July 22, 1843 – July 17, 1913) was a Canadian Liberal politician, farmer and livestock advocate. He lived in Toronto Township as a farmer and thoroughbred dealer. He led livestock groups: president of the Dominion Live Stock Association in 1887; first vice president of the Dominion Live Stock Insurance Company (1887–1888); and president of the Canadian Swine Breeders Association (1890–1891).
Before entering federal politics, he served as councillor, deputy reeve and reeve. In Peel County, he ran as a Liberal in the 1891 federal election against Conservative William Armstrong McCulla and won in a very close contest. The election was later declared void, and in a by-election on February 11, 1892 Featherston won again. In the next election, he defeated A. F. Campbell, publisher of the Brampton Conservator, by a large margin—the first Peel candidate to win by more than 100 votes. Featherston's time in Parliament ended in 1900 when he lost to Richard Blain.
