Jeevani Mental Health Project is a Government of Kerala program to improve mental health among college students. It started in 2019–20 through the Directorate of Collegiate Education in 66 colleges across Kerala, reaching about 60,000 students. From October 2019 to February 2020, 2,315 students used Jeevani services. Most users were female (54.1%), and 38.8% were from lower socio‑economic backgrounds. The most common issues were anxiety and depression. At first, the program focused on Arts and Science colleges. The counselors are postgraduates in psychology. The counseling centers open 30 minutes before college hours and stay open 30 minutes after. Students can seek help themselves or be referred by friends, teachers, or family.
