Ibiaw

Ibiaw was an ancient Egyptian vizier and mayor in the 13th Dynasty, likely serving under pharaohs Wahibre Ibiaw and/or Merneferre Ay. He is known only from three inscriptions that call him vizier; there are no direct portraits or statues of him. The three objects are: a stele from Deir el-Bahari (now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art), a stele in the sanctuary of Heqaib at Elephantine, and a statuette probably from the Temple of Osiris at Abydos (now in Bologna). By studying these inscriptions, scholars have tried to build his family history. Some monuments refer to other dignitaries named Ibiaw, and some scholars think they could be earlier stages of the same person’s career, expanding the genealogy. However, Wolfram Grajetzki cautioned that there is no monument clearly proving Ibiaw’s earlier titles, so these connections are speculative and unproven.
