I Don't Blame You at All
I Don't Blame You at All is a 1971 R&B/pop song by The Miracles (also known as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles) on Motown’s Tamla label. It came from the album One Dozen Roses, with the B-side “Oh Baby Baby I Love You.” Written by Smokey Robinson and produced by Smokey Robinson and Terry “Buzzy” Johnson, the track followed the group’s No. 1 hit The Tears of a Clown.
The song reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 7 on the R&B chart, and No. 11 in the United Kingdom. It was the Miracles’ last Top 20 pop hit with Smokey Robinson before he left the group a year later, and they performed it on American Bandstand on July 10, 1971. Musically upbeat, the tune is a sad, mournful song in which Smokey’s narrator tells a woman he doesn’t blame her for not reciprocating his feelings.
I Don't Blame You at All remains a staple of Miracles greatest-hits collections and has inspired cover versions, including one by Rosetta Hightower.
