Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority
The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), known in Greek as Υπηρεσία Πολιτικής Αεροπορίας (ΥΠΑ), is Greece’s government department that regulates civil aviation. It operates under the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks. Its duties include air traffic control, aeronautical communications, airport operations, aircraft registration and inspection, licensing of civil air operators, and certification of aviation personnel. The HCAA is headquartered in Glyfada, near Athens. The Governor is Georgios Saounatsos. The authority was established in 1931 and reorganized in 1952. It runs remote VHF radio stations and radar stations that are integrated into the PALLAS system for air traffic control. It also maintains a small fleet of aircraft for calibrating navigational aids.
