Haram City
Haram City is a large affordable housing project in Egypt built by Orascom Development in 6th of October City. Construction began in May 2007. By 2010 about 25,000 people lived there. The plan to finish in 2012 would house up to 400,000 residents, making it the biggest private affordable housing investment in Egypt. Incomes are limited to about $320 a month for individuals and $450 for families. Some residents say the location is isolated and there are few job opportunities. The development includes schools, a hospital, and a shopping mall.
