History and heritage: Godrej & Boyce began in 1897 in Mumbai as part of India’s Swadeshi movement. It was founded by Ardeshir Godrej and his brother Pirojsha Burjorji Godrej. They created the world’s first springless lock, India’s first fire- and burglar-resistant safe, and a process to make soap from vegetable oil. Naval Godrej later established the Pirojshanagar township in Vikhroli, where the company’s global headquarters and many operations are located today.

Notable stories include safes used by King George V and Queen Mary during the 1911 Delhi Durbar, and a 1914 fire testimonial praising the safes’ durability.

Environment and social initiatives: the company aims to generate more than one-third of its revenue from environmentally friendly products. It supports the Disha skilling initiative for over ten years as part of its Good & Green strategy, which rests on three pillars.
