Frisky Dingo
Frisky Dingo is an American adult animated comedy on Adult Swim created by Adam Reed and Matt Thompson. It spoofs superhero and action-movie clichés by following a feud between a big, bizarre supervillain and a billionaire superhero.
The main villain is Killface, a tall, pale, bone-white figure who wants to destroy Earth with his doomsday weapon, the Annihilatrix. His foe is Xander Crews, a billionaire who fights crime as the masked superhero Awesome X. Their rivalry shifts between enemies and unwilling allies. Other important characters include Killface’s son Simon, Grace Ryan who becomes the villain Antagone, Sinn who later becomes Hooper, and Xander’s comically inept private army, the Xtacles.
Frisky Dingo mostly takes place in a city simply called Town, a stand-in for Atlanta. The show jokes about not naming the city and uses Atlanta-like landmarks in its imagery.
Format and seasons: The series ran for two seasons on Adult Swim, from October 15, 2006, to March 23, 2008, with a total of 25 episodes. A third season was discussed but never made. In Canada, it aired on Teletoon at Night.
Spin-off: The Xtacles, a short-lived spin-off about Xander Crews’ private army, aired in 2008 but only two episodes were released before the production company closed.
Production: Frisky Dingo was produced by 70/30 Productions, based in Atlanta. The studio closed in 2009, after which Reed and Thompson started Floyd County Productions. The show’s working title was Whiskey Tango Six, which was changed for legal reasons, and jokes reference the launch code “Frisky Dingo” in the series.
