Emmanuelle Moureaux, born in 1971, is a French architect and designer based in Tokyo. She is famous for using color as a central element in her work. She fell in love with Ikebukuro, a part of Tokyo, while researching her thesis and has lived there since 1996. In 2003 she started her studio, emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design. Her main idea is shikiri, which means to divide and create space with color. She treats color as a three‑dimensional material that shapes space, not just a finish. Her projects include the Sugamo Shinkin Bank Shimura Branch, plus art installations, interiors, and products. Her 100 Colors installations explore how color strengthens shikiri, and each piece is unique. She hopes color can evoke emotion and be felt by touch, showing that color can create space with meaning.
