Chroberz
Chroberz is a small village in south-central Poland. It is in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Pińczów County, in the Gmina Złota. The village lies about 7 km north of Złota, 12 km south of Pińczów, and 51 km south of Kielce. Its coordinates are about 50°26′N 20°34′E.
Chroberz covers around 9.24 square kilometers and had a population of 964 in 2005. The name comes from the Old Polish word chrobry, meaning brave. Tradition says it refers to the king Bolesław Chrobry, who is said to have built a castle and founded a parish there.
According to historical sources, around 1019–1020 Bolesław Chrobry established a settlement in Chroberz after a Kiev expedition. The first written mention of the place appears in 1153, when it was called Chrober. In the 13th century Chroberz was an important location in the Kraków region, and two Kraków rulers, Leszek I the White and Bolesław V the Chaste, stayed there for a time.
