Catocala sordida
Catocala sordida, the sordid underwing, is a moth in the family Erebidae. It was first described by Augustus R. Grote in 1877. This species lives across much of North America—from Saskatchewan to New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, south to Florida, and west to Texas, with northern reaches to Manitoba. The wingspan is 37–45 mm. Adults are active from May to September, and there is one generation per year. The caterpillars feed on Celtis (hackberry) and Vaccinium (blueberry and relatives).
