Bute County Regiment
Bute County Regiment was a North Carolina militia infantry unit active from 1775 to 1779. It was authorized by the North Carolina Provincial Congress on September 9, 1775 and served under the Halifax District Brigade led by Brigadier Allen Jones. The regiment did not fight any battles against the British during the American Revolution. It was disbanded on January 30, 1779, when Bute County was dissolved and split into Franklin and Warren counties, after which the unit became the Franklin County Regiment and the Warren County Regiment.
Commanders included Colonels William Person, Philemon Hawkins, Jr., and Thomas Eaton. In February 1776, the regiment headed to Moore’s Creek Bridge but arrived too late to take part in the action.
