Borja Lacalle
Borja Lacalle Álvarez (born 21 May 2001 in Madrid) is a Spanish field hockey player who can play as a midfielder or forward. He currently plays for Oranje–Rood in the Dutch Hoofdklasse and for the Spain national team.
Lacalle began his career with Club de Campo in Madrid and later moved to the Netherlands to play for Oranje–Rood in 2024. He previously competed for Club de Campo in Spain’s División de Honor and the Euro Hockey League.
International career
- Spain U21: 2021–2022, 11 caps and 1 goal. He debuted for the U21 team at the FIH Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar in 2021, with his last junior appearances at the EuroHockey U21 Championship in Ghent in 2022.
- Spain senior team: 2022–present, 76 caps and 10 goals. Lacalle made his senior debut for Spain in the FIH Pro League, coming on against Argentina in Valencia in a match that ended 1–0 against Spain.
Education
- He studied at CUNEF Universidad in Madrid.
Current status
- He continues to represent Spain and plays for Oranje–Rood in the Hoofdklasse, with appearances in major tournaments such as the EuroHockey Championship 2025 in Mönchengladbach.
