Bob Friend (golfer)
Bob Friend (born December 5, 1963) is an American former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide/Nike Tour. He is the son of former MLB pitcher Bob Friend.
Friend attended Louisiana State University and turned professional in 1987. He started on the Ben Hogan Tour (now the Korn Ferry Tour) in 1990, with five top-10 finishes including a second at the Ben Hogan El Paso Open. In 1991 he won the Ben Hogan Fort Wayne Open and earned his PGA Tour card at qualifying school later that year.
His 1992 rookie year on the PGA Tour was uneven, and he spent much of the mid-1990s on the Nike/Nationwide Tour with several top-10 finishes. He returned to the PGA Tour in 1998 after qualifying school, finishing 57th on the money list and nearly winning the Bell Canadian Open in a playoff with Billy Andrade.
Friend’s last PGA Tour season was 2000, after which he played on the Nationwide/Nike Tour through 2003. He has three children and works as a real estate agent for Howard Hanna in the Fox Chapel area. Career playoff records: Nike Tour 1–1; PGA Tour 0–1.
