Blount Building
Blount Building
The Blount Building is a seven-story office building in Pensacola, Florida, located at 3 West Garden Street near the corner of Palafox Street. It was built in 1906–07 for local attorney William Alexander Blount, at a cost of about $200,000, and was designed by architect Charles Hill Turner. It stands on the site of the former Blount-Watson Building, which burned in 1905.
The Chicago School–style structure uses marble, granite, brick, and fireproof iron and steel girders. Its exterior features a three-part classical column design: the first two floors form the base, floors three through six form the shaft, and the seventh floor is the capital. The first-floor storefronts have changed over the years, but the upper-floor exterior remains largely the same. The building also showcases Chicago-style windows.
In 1989, it was noted as a fine example of turn-of-the-century commercial architecture in Pensacola. In 2015, local investors led by Bobby Switzer purchased the Blount Building, the adjoining Brent Building, and much of the nearby area, and carried out extensive renovations to revitalize downtown Pensacola.
