Anna Maria Ashe
Anna Maria Ashe, born August 1953, is a British television presenter best known for presenting London Tonight. She began her career in 1983 at Grampian Television as a continuity announcer and newsreader for local bulletins North News and North Headlines. After a short spell announcing for Thames Television, she joined BBC Scotland in 1986 as an announcer and transmission director and also presented Reporting Scotland’s lunchtime news. She then moved to Television South in Southampton as a continuity announcer. When in-vision continuity was phased out at TVS, she joined Coast to Coast, first as the South edition’s newsreader, then moved to Maidstone to front the South East edition with Mike Debens. In 1989 she left TVS and joined London Weekend Television to present LWT News bulletins on weekends to boost the company’s local news service, and also provided news round-ups for Six O’ Clock Live. When LWT News ended in January 1993, she joined the London News Network, a Carlton/LWT venture, as presenter of London Tonight. She also presented regional programmes such as Summer Dream Ticket and Caring at Christmas. She stayed with LNN until it was disbanded on 29 February 2004, after which ITN took over production of the London news service. Ashe presented the last LNN-produced bulletin. Since then she has focused on corporate and charity work and is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust. She has also appeared in cameo newsreader roles on The Bill, Bad Girls, Prime Suspect and Footballers’ Wives.
