Anima Choudhury (born 28 February 1953) is an Assamese singer, musician, and professor from Nalbari, Assam. For more than four decades she has focused on folk and modern Assamese songs. She has earned local and state recognitions and is known by titles such as Luit Kuwari and Jan Dimali. Some of her popular songs are Dikhou noir parore, Log diyar kotha asil, and E pran gopal.

Alongside her music, Choudhury built an academic career. She earned a Doctorate in history from Gauhati University and retired in 2013 as Associate Professor and Head of the History Department at Chhaygaon College, Kamrup.

Her early life was steeped in music. Born to Dandiram and Hemalata Choudhury in a village near Nalbari, she grew up with a strong musical influence. She began formal music training as a child, studying Hindustani classical music and earning the Visharad. She trained with Hiren Sarma in Guwahati and later with Damodar Bora, Nirod Roy, and Nripen Ganguli.

Education-wise, she completed Honors in History at Cotton College in 1972, earned an MA in History from Gauhati University in 1974, and received her PhD in 1999 on Temples and Shrines around Guwahati.

Choudhury’s break came in 1970 when she sang all female songs for the Assamese film Mukuta, with the hit “E pran gopal, Patila mayare khela.” She recorded albums with His Master’s Voice, sang for several films, and lent her voice to TV serials. She has been an All India Radio artist since 1972 and has performed for Doordarshan and in international venues as an ambassador of Assamese music. She has received honors such as Best Singer at Cotton College (1969–70), Best Singer at Gauhati University (1973), and the Brajen Baruah Award.
