Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited, publicly listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as AFH, is a South African financial services group. It provides asset and fund management, employee benefits consulting (including healthcare), investment management, insurance and wealth management to corporate and individual clients.
Headquartered in Sandton, Johannesburg, the group serves clients in South Africa and operates in Botswana, Namibia and Jersey in the Channel Islands.
The company began in 1935 as Price Forbes, a life and pension broker. Over the years it expanded into fund administration, employee benefits, actuarial services and retirement planning, eventually becoming Alexander Forbes Financial Services. International growth started in 1990 with London and Jersey, followed by acquisitions such as Lane Clark & Peacock in the UK.
From 2012 to 2014, the group disposed of several overseas interests to focus on core markets. In 2006 a large leveraged buyout led to its delisting from the JSE, and in 2014 it returned to the market with an IPO that raised about ZAR 3.7 billion.
Leadership includes Kuseni Dlamini (Chairman), Dawie de Villiers (CEO) and Bruce Bydawell (CFO). The company has been recognized with awards such as the 2019 HedgeNews Africa Five Year Fund of Funds award, the 2020 Visionary CIO of the Year (Sandra La Bella), and the 2021 Global Africa Fund Survey Providers – Best Investment Survey Provider.
