Ademir Fonseca

Ademir Fonseca dos Santos, commonly known as Ademir Fonseca, was born on 18 January 1963 in Nepomuceno, Brazil. He is a former professional footballer who played as a defender and later became a manager. He rose to prominence with Botafogo and was part of the same generation as Josimar and Alemão. While at Botafogo he didn’t win major titles, but he did win the Bern Tournament in 1985 against Young Boys.

Fonseca had a long playing career with many Brazilian clubs, including Botafogo, Joinville, Atlético Paranaense, Ituano, Paysandu and CRB, among others. He started coaching right after retiring, taking charge of Ituano in 1997. As a coach, he won the 2002 Campeonato Paulista with Ituano and later state championships with Paysandu in 2006 and CRB in 2013, along with other successes for interior teams.

In March 2019, Fonseca suffered a heart attack during a Módulo II match between Uberlândia and Serranense and needed emergency heart surgery. On 6 February 2024, he was announced as coach of União Suzano for the Campeonato Paulista Série A3.
