1985 Kantalai massacre
On 9 November 1985, Sri Lankan Army soldiers abducted six Sri Lankan Tamil civilians from the home of Mayilvakanam near the Kantalai Pillayar Temple in Kantalai, Eastern Province. The six were later found dead along Allai Road, at the 4th Mile post. Two of Mayilvakanam’s daughters were among the victims, and postmortems showed they had been raped before they were killed. The incident is known as the 1985 Kantalai massacre.
