1931 Philadelphia Athletics season

The A’s dominated the American League, finishing first with a 107–45 record and winning their third straight pennant. Managed by Connie Mack and playing at Shibe Park in Philadelphia, they continued a string of 100-win seasons.

In the World Series, they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games, missing the chance to become the first team to win three consecutive World Series; the Yankees would achieve a three-peat seven years later. This would also be the last World Series appearance for the A’s in Philadelphia before they moved to Oakland; their next pennant would come in 1972.

The season was highlighted by Lefty Grove, who went 31–4 with a 2.06 ERA and 175 strikeouts, winning the pitching triple crown and the MVP. George Earnshaw and Rube Walberg provided solid support with 21 and 20 wins, helping the team allow the fewest runs in the AL. Al Simmons won the batting title with a .390 average and finished third in MVP voting.
