1922 Goodall Cup Finals

The 1922 Goodall Cup Final returned to Melbourne after World War I. The series was held at the Melbourne Glaciarium from July 22 to July 26, in a best-of-three format between Victoria and New South Wales. The event also featured an interstate women's match that would later become the Gower Cup. The series-winning goal was scored by Victor Langsford. The New South Wales coach was Jim Kendall, and H. Joseph served as team manager.

Game 1 – July 22
Victoria led 2–0 by halftime. Ernest Collins scored the first three goals for Victoria. C. Gates scored for New South Wales from the center line. Maurice Bilsborrow added a late goal for Victoria, giving them a 4–1 victory before a large crowd.

Game 2 – July 24
Victoria opened the scoring with a goal by Victor Langsford, making it 1–0 at halftime. Early in the second period, Langsford scored again and Ernest Collins added another, bringing the score to 3–0. Victoria’s defense held NSW scoreless, and Victoria won 3–0, securing the series. John Edwin Goodall, founder of the Goodall Cup, captained the first Victorian team to win since the war.

Game 3 – July 26
Victoria scored first, NSW equalized to make it 1–1, and the game finished 1–1. With Victoria already up 2–0 in the series, the Cup was awarded to Victoria.
