Östra Finlands Nation (ÖFN) is one of the 15 student nations at the University of Helsinki. It is Swedish-speaking and was founded in 1924. Its abbreviation is ÖFN, and its Latin name is Natio Fenniae Orientalis.

ÖFN represents Swedish-speaking students from Eastern Finland. Today this mainly means students from Sipoo and areas further east. The official language is Swedish, but any student in the Helsinki region can join, including international students.

History: ÖFN split off in 1924 from Wiipurilainen osakunta (Wiipurilainen, or Wiborgs nation), one of the university’s original nations. Wiipurilainen osakunta was established in 1654 for students from the city of Vyborg. ÖFN keeps the memory and traditions of Vyborg alive.

Current activities: ÖFN provides a meeting place and hosts leisure and academic activities at its premises, Nypolen, in the New Student House. It arranges trips to Eastern Finland and to Vyborg, and collaborates with other nations at Helsinki University.

Location: Nypolen, New Student House, University of Helsinki. Address: Mannerheimintie 5 A, 00100 Helsinki, Finland. Website: ofn.fi

Membership: Open to any student studying at a university or university of applied sciences in the Helsinki region. Membership is rooted in Swedish-speaking heritage, but everyone is welcome.
