History: Karlstetten was part of ancient Noricum. It was first mentioned on 9 September 1083 in a church charter. From 1459 to 1831 the von Zinzendorf family ruled the village, followed by the Counts Baudissin and Baron Candid von Suttner. In 1925 the manor was bought by Zacharias Frank, a German industrialist. In 1945 Soviet troops seized it as German property, and in 1965 it was transferred to the community.
Government: The mayor is Anton Fischer. The council includes representatives from ÖVP, SPÖ and FPÖ (the 2005 distribution was 10, 8 and 1 seats). The local soccer team, SV Karlstetten/Neidling, plays in the Gebietsliga West.

Karlstetten offers a kindergarten, an elementary school, a secondary modern school, a general practitioner, a dentist, a musical school, a musical society and a gymnastics club.
