Josh Ho-Sang
Josh Ho-Sang is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward and rapper. Born January 22, 1996, in Toronto, Ontario, he is 6 feet tall, 173 pounds, and plays right wing, shooting right. He currently plays for Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and has spent time with the New York Islanders in the NHL.
Ho-Sang comes from a mixed-heritage family. His father is Jamaican with Chinese and African roots, and his mother is Chilean with Russian-Jewish and Swedish ancestry. He grew up in Thornhill, near Toronto, and has talked about celebrating Jewish holidays with his family.
He was drafted 28th overall by the Islanders in the 2014 NHL Draft. He played junior hockey with the Windsor Spitfires and Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League and appeared for Team Ontario at the World U-17 Challenge in 2014. Ho-Sang made his NHL debut on March 2, 2017, for the Islanders and scored his first NHL goal on March 7, 2017.
His career has included several moves between the NHL and AHL, plus time abroad. He spent seasons in the Swedish Hockey League on loan in 2020–21 (Örebro HK and then Linköping HC), attended the Toronto Maple Leafs’ training camp in 2021, and played for their AHL affiliate, the Marlies. In 2022 he signed with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the KHL.
In 2024, Ho-Sang joined the Florida Everblades of the ECHL and helped them win the Kelly Cup, finishing the playoffs with strong assist numbers. He re-signed with the Everblades in 2025. He has also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Off the ice, Ho-Sang released a rap album called SAME in March 2024. The project addresses mental health and the pressures of celebrity in sports, including a track titled “Papi For MVP” about Auston Matthews.
