Garry Lewis (soccer)
Garry Lewis (born August 26, 1986) is an American former soccer midfielder and current assistant coach at the University of the Cumberlands. He grew up in Orange Park, Florida, where he starred in high school and club soccer, earning three NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America honors, a Gatorade State Player of the Year award as a sophomore, and multiple All-State honors. He also won two Super Y-League National Championships with West Kendall Optimist.
Lewis played college soccer at St. John’s in 2005 and then at the University of North Carolina from 2006 to 2008. At UNC he became a starting midfielder, earned the Most Competitive Player award, and served as co-captain as a senior, helping the Tar Heels reach the NCAA national final. He finished with 11 goals and 5 assists for UNC.
His professional career included time with the Carolina Dynamo (2009), Real Maryland Monarchs (2009), and Ekenäs IF in Finland (2009–2010, 2012) plus SalPa (2011). He also played for Jacksonville Armada in 2016, with a loan to Tulsa Roughnecks (2016). After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching, including a stint with TPS Reserves and, starting in 2020, as an assistant coach for the Cumberlands Patriots.
